전기(傳奇) <최치원(崔致遠)> 다시 읽기

Abstract

필자는 전기(傳奇) <최치원(崔致遠)>의 작품의 분위기가 가볍고 에로틱(erotic)하며 문인 최치원은 성적 욕망을 숨김없이 드러내는, 경박한 바람둥이의 면모도 가지고 있다고 볼 여지가 충분하다는 점에 주목해서 작품을 새롭게 읽어 보고자 했다. 작품 분석을 통해서, 현실에서는 예교(禮敎)에서 일탈하는 것이 허용되지 않는 문인관료가 두 명의 여귀(女鬼)와 만나 성적 욕구를 한껏 펼쳐 보였다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 작자와 독자는 풍광한(風狂漢) 최치원을 내세워 희학(戱謔), 꿈틀거리는 성적 욕망, 그 금기된 것을 표출하고 말하는 기쁨을 누리고자 했을 것이다. 필자는 <최치원>이 중국 당대(唐代) 애정전기의 서사문법을 수용한 토대 위에서 남성 중심적 시각에 의해서 남성 문인의 욕망(특히 성적 욕망)을 표현했기 때문에 이상과 같은 면모를 갖게 되었다고 해석했다. 남성 중심적 시각을 유지한 결과 여성의 욕망이 축소되거나 왜곡되는 것은 불가피한 일이었다.

In this thesis, I attempt to re-read Chuanqi <Choi Chi Won> by noticing the fact that the atmosphere of this work is light and erotic, revealing hidden sexual desire, and showing the aspect of a frivolous playboy. Work analysis proves that learned and literary officials unfolded their sexual desire to their heart's content by meeting two female ghosts, even though they were not allowed to deviate from rite-teaching in the reality. Both author and readers might have enjoyed the pleasure of expressing and speaking their wit and humor, wriggling sexual desire, and those things of taboo. In this thesis, I interpreted that those characteristics mentioned above were manifested because the desire (particularly, sexual desire) was expressed from the male-oriented perspective based on the acceptance of narrative structure (grammar) of Chuanqi involving love, emerged from the period of Tang Dynasty, China. It was inevitable to reduce or distort female desire as a result of keeping the male-oriented perspective.
