- Abstract
- This study aims to reveal the meaning of 'Jainich(在日)'s life in Lee Hoi Seong' novel, Traveler during a hundered years from a angle of Diaspora. A problematic of Diaspora is significant of decondtruting a nationalism and bringing a position of exile into relief. Traveler during a hundered years is to become an issue the origin of 'Jainich(在日)'s life and to narrative a history of Jainich Koreans' diaspora.
First, Traveler during a hundered years deals with some Korean's unstable diaspora life, based on the narrative of exile from Sakhalin and return to their country right after Japan's war defeat. Through this narrative process, Traveler during a hundered years presents the unstable life and their destinies of emigrant Koreans in Sakhalin, who had contradictory identity as 'Japanese' from 'Korea'.
Second, Traveler during a hundered years throws the unstable emigrant life's image on the family narrative of Park Bong-Seok. It is caused by the narrative project that sees the origin of 'residing in Japan' on the area of emigrant's history. Park Bong-Seok's family abandons the return to the native country and starts Korean residents in Japan. The ending of this novel proves this narrtive project.
Third, the novelist finds the individual's value, which transcends the differences of nation, race, ideology, and he finds the new base of 'residing in Japan'. This emphasis on the human value assumes the confession about their past fallacies as both individuals and national people.
