디지털 디바이드 해소를 위한 웹 접근성 평가 : 국내외 주요 포털의 e메일 서비스를 중심으로

Abstract

정보격차(digital divide) 해소 방안으로 ‘웹 접근성(Web Accessibility)’의 중요성을 인식하고, 기존 웹 접근성 연구가 공공기관에 한해서 이루어진 점과 실생활에서 이용률이 높은 웹서비스에 대한 웹 접근성 연구가 없었다는 문제의식을 갖고 시작하였다. 본 연구에서는 대표적인 보편적 웹서비스로 다음, 네이버, 엠파스의 이메일 서비스를 대상으로 선정하여 웹 접근성 실태를 조사하였다. 이를 통하여 정보소외계층에게 효율적인 서비스를 제공하기 위한 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로는 웹 접근성 평가 분석도구인 ‘카도와(KADO-WAH)2.0’을 사용하여 1차 자동평가를 실시하였고, 2차로 소스분석과 파이어폭스를 활용한 수동평가를 통하여 ‘웹 콘텐츠 접근성 지침 1.0’의 준수 여부를 분석하였다. 평가 결과를 종합해보면 구글이 가장 웹 접근성이 좋은 환경을 제공하고 있었으며, 야후와 다음, 네이버는 비슷하게 평가되었다. 다음의 메일서비스는 텍스트 아닌 콘텐츠 인식이 90%이상 가능하지만, 주요 콘텐츠의 대체텍스트 제공을 보완해야 하며, 네이버의 경우 대체텍스트는 제공하고 있지만 그 내용이 적절하지 않으므로 수정해야 할 필요가 있다. 이러한 보편적인 웹서비스의 접근성 부재는 정보격차 현상을 가중시키는바, 이를 인식하여 ‘모두가 함께하는 정보사회(Inclusive Information Society)'를 위한 실용적이고 체계적인 웹 접근성 연구가 지속되어야 할 것이다.

Understanding the importance of web accessibility as the solution for digital divide,this study recognizes the problem that existing web accessibility researches have been conducted only by governmental administrative organizations and the accessibility researches of web service that is frequently used in every day life are rare. For the research on the actual condition of web- accessability, this study selected the e-mail service of the representative domestic and international web-service providers- Naver, Daum, Yahoo and Google. Through this evaluation research, this study is intended to present a way to provideconvenient and efficient service for those who have been alienated from information. For the accessibility evaluation, the automation evaluation tool "KADO-WAH 2.0" was used. And then, source analysis and manual evaluation using Firefox were conducted to see if 'web contents accessibility guideline 1.0' had been kept.
