dc.description.abstract | The study aimed at verifying the mediating effects of the ‘institutional betrayal’ in the relationship between military violence and trust in the military by analyzing a survey of 105 discharged Korean army officers between 2019 and 2021. This study categorized military violence into 7 types: verbal abuse, physical abuse, bullying, rape or attempted rape, sexual molestation, sexual harassment, digital sex crime(illegal filming), and stalking. The survey includes questions about the experience of military violence, institutional betrayal, and general trust in the military. The results were as follows: (1) Verbal abuse have positively correlated with the physical abuse, bullying, sexual molestation, and sexual harassment. (2) The respondents who reported at least one type of military violence reported a higher perception of institutional betrayal than those who did not report any experience of military violence. (3) Those who reported sexual violence experience have a higher perception of institutional betrayal when compared to those who experienced non-sexual crime and people who did not report any experience of violence. (4) Institutional betrayal has a mediating effect in the relationship between the experience of military violence and trust in the military. Finally, the implications and the limitations of the study were discussed. | - |
