- Abstract
- This paper examines the telecommunication, transportation, and trade networks among 15 European countries. An attempt is made to show that the relations or locations of nations on the European continent could be meaningfully conceptualized as flows of transactions between countries and subjected to systematic empirical analysis. The findings of this study reveal the major role of the G-7 member countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Italy across all three European networks indicating that the positions of these countries in the European continent are quite stable and consistent. Switzerland also keeps a very central position in the network. Eastern bloc countries such as Hungary and Czechoslovakia and Iceland are the least central in all three networks.
