- Abstract
- This study is aimed at examining the political implication of the theory of market socialism, focusing on its feasibility. For this, at first, this study scrutinizes the recent theories of market socialism which have been presented after the failure of the socialism. This study also examines the feasibility and viability of market socialism for the purpose of reviewing the theoretical and practical limitations of the theory of market socialism.
Market socialism is a theoretical concept or model of an economic system in which the means of production are publicly or collectively owned and the allocation of resources follows the rules of the market. The theory of market socialism was originated in order to overcome the economic inefficiencies of the centralized socialist countries. Hungary and Yugoslavia had experienced market socialism which ended in failure. After the failure of the socialism, and in the time when the laissez-faire capitalism seems to have huge influences on every side of life, however, some analytical Marxists and the members of Fabian Society begin to re -examine the theory of market socialism. In theory, Market socialism implies that man can control politics democratically and producers can also control economy democratically for themselves, which has long been the ideal of human-beings. However, this ideal is very hard to actualize for the reasons as follows.
