- Abstract
The Korean Provisional Government, which recognized women's eligibility of election and suffrage, elected a total of six women as members of the Provisional Assembly, equivalent to today's members of the National Assembly, from liberation to dissolution. For the first time in Korean history, a woman became the subject of the legislature. However, during the Shanghai Provisional Government period, female lawmakers themselves did not try to act as a representative, that is, to participate in parliamentary activities to reflect policies. After the Sino-Japanese War, the women's independence movement was no longer confined to the support from outskirts, but changed into a direct struggle, such as enlisting in the Liberation Army. Female lawmakers such as Soonhee Bang, Kyunghee Ji and Jeongwan Shin showed a further transformation of parliamentary activities compared to those of the early days. This study aims to examine an aspect of the history of women's political participation in modern times, which tried to secure equal political representation beyond the independence movement.
