교양과학 교과목과온라인 글쓰기 피드백의 접목: 숙명여대 <현대사회와 과학기술> 사례를 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 숙명여대에서 2013년부터 개설해 온 교양과학 교과목 강좌에 온라인 글쓰기 피드백을 시도한 과정과 그에 대한 평가, 그리고 향후 교양과학 교과목과 글쓰기 교육의 접목에 대한 함의를 제시하고자 한다. 숙명여대는 2013년 교양교육을 강화할 목적으로 새로운 교과목을 개발하는 과정에서 교양과학 교과목인 <현대사회와 과학기술>을 개설했다. 이 교과목은 과학기술에 대한 역사적, 철학적, 사회학적 고찰 속에서 오늘날 주목받고 있는 과학기술의 다양한 성격과 쟁점을 이해하는 것을 목표로 삼았다. 2013년 하나의 강좌가 개설된 이래 여러 분반, 그리고 다른 주제의 교양과학 교과목이 증설되었고, 과학기술에 대한 비판적 사고를 함양하는 데 기여해 왔다. 또한 해당 교과목의 수강생들은 과학기술과 관련된 다큐멘터리를 한 편 시청하고 이에 대한 비판적 에세이를 작성하여 과제로 제출했고, 과학기술학을 전공한 교수가 간단하게 첨삭하는 방식으로 피드백해 왔다. 그런 와중에 2020년 2학기 숙명여대 교양교육연구소가 구축한 온라인 글쓰기 피드백 시스템인 [사ᄆᆞᆺ]을 활용하여 수강생들에게 더욱 수준 높은 글쓰기 지도를 할 수 있는 기회가 마련되었다. 학생들은 강좌를 통해 과학기술에 대한 비판적인 사고를 함양하고, 온라인 글쓰기 피드백을 통하여 글쓰기 교육 전공자로부터 표현, 구성, 내용까지 다양한 글쓰기 지도를 받았고, 이를 수정하여 교수에게 최종 제출했다. 본 논문은 현대사회에서 과학기술의 성격을 이해하고 이에 대한 비판적인 사고를 함양하는 교과목에서 온라인 글쓰기 피드백을 활용한 글쓰기 교육을 접목했을 때 어떤 교육적 효과가 나올 수 있으며 그 한계는 무엇인지 살펴보고자 한다. 나아가 향후 과학기술에 대한 글쓰기 교육이 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 제언하고자 한다.

This paper aims to introduce the encounter of science liberal education and on-line writing feedback at Sookmyung Women's University in 2020 and to suggest some implications from lecture evaluations. While other universities has developed <Writing on Science and Technology> courses for writing education according to academic track and the accreditation for engineering education since the early 2000s, Sookmyung Women's University has two specific backgrounds for this encounter. Firstly, the science liberal course, <Science, Technology and Modern Society> has dealt with the history and social, moral, ethical issues of science and technology in modern society for improving critical thinking on science/technology, and additional courses have been installed until now. Secondly, the General Education Research Institute of Sookmyung Women's University initiated the project for innovation of liberal education in 2019, and this project promoted the development of on-line writing feedback system. In 2020, students at this course, after lectures dealing with some issues on biomedicine, had to submit review paper about a documentary on genetic diagnosis and personal, social questions to on-line writing feedback system. Four experts on writing teaching read students' papers and made comments on expressions, structures, contents of papers via on-line feedback system, and students had to submit their revised paper to professor of this course. For improving critical thinking as well as the ability to write on science and technology, the aims and targets, curriculum contents and subject of education have to be pondered on, and new experiment to integrate science liberal education with writing teaching at Sookmyung Women's University suggest some implications on science and technology writing educations which have been promoted at many domestic university about two decades.
