장아이링張愛玲 《전기傳奇》 속 공간의 상징적 의미

Abstract

소설에서 가장 중요한 요소는 인물, 사건, 배경이다. 특히 공간적 배경은 인물의 정체성을 형성하는데 중요한 요소가 된다. 장아이링의 단편 소설집 《전기》에서 공간적 배경의 상징적 의미를 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 장아이링의 《전기》 속의 공간은 크게는 상하이와 홍콩이고 작게는 인물들이 거주하는 대저택과 아파트가 대부분이다. 더 작게는 방 안과 같은 밀폐된 공간이 주로 보인다. 장아이링의 《전기》 속의 공간적 배경은 작가의 어린시절과 청년시기의 기억이 바탕이 된다. 대저택은 아버지와 함께 했던 공간으로 애증의 공간이다. 어린시절의 아름다웠던 추억이 있음과 동시에 청년기에 아버지의 학대와 방치를 겪었던 공간이다. 아파트는 어머니와 함께 했던 공간으로 애착이 어린 공간이다. 본고에서는 아버지의 집인 대저택을 ‘백일몽의 공간’, ‘죽음과 무덤의 공간’으로 나누어 살펴본다. 어머지의 집인 아파트는 ‘여성 자립의 공간’, ‘더 나은 삶에 대한 희망의 공간’으로 나누어 살펴본다.이러한 공간의 분석을 통하여 공간의 상징적 의미가 작중 인물의 정체성에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 분석한다.

This paper categorizes the mansion, her father’s abode, as “a place of daydreams,” “a place of death and graves,” and the apartment, her mother’s abode, as “a place of female independence,” “a place of hope for a better life,” This paper then examines these spaces to analyze how the symbolic meaning of space influences the identity of the characters.
