1960년대 여자대학 학보 연구 -<이대학보>, <숙대신보>의 글을 중심으로-

Abstract

1960년대 여대생 집단은 70~80년대 본격적인 여성문학의 시대를 열어간 주역이 된 세대이며 변화된 여성 의식과 행동양식을 보여주는 중요한 공동체로 재조명되어야 한다. 기존에 1960년대 ‘젊은-여성’ 그룹을 중심으로 한 교양담론에 대한 기존 연구는 가정주부나 독신여성을 중심으로 연구된 경우가 많았고, 여대생을 다루더라도 당시 사회가 여대생에 대해 갖는 인식을 규명하려는 것이라 당대를 살아가는 주체로서의 여대생 자신이 어떤 세대의식과 관점을 가지고 있었는지를 살펴보는 데는 한계가 있었다. 이러한 문제의식에서 출발한 이 글은 여대생들 스스로가 주체가 되어 직접 만든 매체와 그들이 쓴 글을 중심으로 살펴보며 그들의 공통감정, 시대의식 및 변화한 젠더의식을 규명하려 했다. 학보는 여대생들이 직접 참여하여 스스로 주체가 되어 기획하고 글을 쓰고 만들었던 매체라는 점에서 그들이 갖고 있던 시대와 현실에 대한 공통감각을 파악하기에 적절하다. 학보는 대학사회의 여론형성의 역할도 담당하고 있으므로 여자 대학 학보의 글을 통해 여대생 집단 내의 공동의 문제의식을 가늠할 수 있기 때문이다. 그들은 학보가 변화한 여성 의식을 표출할 공론장이며, 자신들의 의견과 이해를 표명하는 미디어라고 생각했고 그들의 글쓰기는 공공성을 창출하기 위한 시도였다. 여대생들이 주체가 되어 기획하고 내용을 구성하며 절차와 운영을 정했던 대학 내 미디어는 여자 대학생들의 미디어 공공성을 창출하는 장으로서의 의미를 지녔다고 할 수 있다. 당시 일간지 대학소식란에서 여자대학 학보 기사를 발췌 편집해온 보도 태도나, 학보의 외부 필진 청탁 글들의 논조를 보면 당시 사회가 여자대학 신문과 여대생에 대해 가지고 있던 젠더화된 시각을 알 수 있다. 그러나 1960년대 여자대학 학보는 새로운 여성의식과 미디어 공공성에 대한 인식을 높여준 매체이며, 여대생들 역시 1960년대의 교양담론이 인위적으로 만들어낸 가치 담론에 갇히기를 거부하며 공공성을 실현하는 참여적 주체가 되려는 정신적 공동체였다는 사실이 재평가되어야 한다. 이 글은, 그간 주목되지 못하고 누락되었던 이들의 목소리를 복원하며 이들이 변화된 여성 의식과 행동양식을 보여주는 중요한 집단일 뿐만 아니라 1960년대 세대적 역사적 주체의 이름으로 부각되었던 ‘문학청년’과 동일한 범주 내에서 재조명되어야 한다는 문제의식을 담고 있다. 이는 당대의 청년담론은 물론 이후에도 계속 되는 여성담론의 계보를 다시 살펴보려는 문학사적 의미를 가진다.

This paper aims to shed light on the value of Journal of Women's University in 1960s that have not been noted academically. In the '60s, a group of female college students should be re-examined as an important community that shows a changed way of women's consciousness and behavior. It is necessary to look at what generation of consciousness and perspective a female college student of the time had. Starting with this sense of problem, female university students themselves tried to study and analyze the academic records of planning and making. The articles of the Journal of Women's University are appropriate to grasp the common sense of the times and reality they had in the sense that female college students participated in writing and making. In addition, the academic records play a role in forming public opinion in the university community, so the writings of the academic records show a common sense of problem within a group of female college students. At that time, female college students thought that the university newspaper was the public sphere to express their changed feminine consciousness, and their writing was an attempt to create publicness. They are the same generation that opened the era of women's literature in earnest in the 70s and 80s after graduating from college. The goal of this article is to examine the academic reports of women's universities, which were not subject to academic lighting, and to identify the internal, common feelings, and women's consciousness of female university students at the time.
