- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between health-related physical fitness, body composition, and metabolic indices in college females to provide the basic information for health promotion and improvement of physical fitness in college females.27 college females were randomly selected for this study. Health-related physical fitness was determined by measuring back strength, sit-up, trunk flexion, step-test and body composition. Metabolic indices such as total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid, lactate, glucose and leptin were measured. Analysis of Multiple Correlation, Analysis of Simple Linear Regression and Dubin Watson Test were applied for the statistical analysis using SPSS 12.0.This results showed that body composition was significantly associated with body mass index, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, and leptin(p<.05), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol was significantly affected by body mass index(p<.05) in college females. In conclusion, this results indicated that college females did not regular exercise and physical activity to maintain proper percent body fat. Also, they did not appear to have appropriate exercise and eating habit during normal daily life. Therefore, it was recommended that development of adequate physical activity program and appropriate understanding on nutritional information should be spread and proliferated to promote desirable maintenance of body composition and improvement on health-related physical fitness in college females.
