- Abstract
- This case study aims to design an introductive writing course based on the lexical approach for foreign beginner learners to improve their writing abilities. The study used the OHE model to design the course and portrayed an actual writing case about travel. To prove whether this course is effective, the study tested learners’ writing abilities before and after the course. To evaluate the effects of this course on the students’ affective domain, this study conducted a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire survey online, followed by an interview. statistically significant results were obtained. It was confirmed that the mean number of lexical chunks and the mean scores of lexical diversities after the course were higher. Moreover, through the 5-point Likert scale analysis, it was found that the course had a positive impact on students’ affective domain. This study signifies that, when applied to actual educational settings; an introductive writing course using the OHE model of the lexical approach, which has not been widely used in writing education for Korean language learners, is statistically more helpful in improving learners’ writing skills and their affective domain.
