대학생의 사회인지적 갈등조절 잠재프로파일과 유능감, 협동적·경쟁적 태도, 참여 간의 관계

Abstract

학습자들은 학업 상황에서 서로 다른 의견으로 종종 갈등에 부딪힌다. 이 때 다양한 방식으로 갈등을 조절하는데, 본 연구에서는 대학생들이 이러한 갈등을 어떻게 조절해 나가는지 그 유형을 파악하고, 이러한 유형이 학업 관련 변인들과 어떠한 관계를 보이는지 검증하였다. 구체적으로, 대학생이 사용하는 사회인지적 갈등조절 유형의 프로파일을 확인하고 프로파일의 예측 변인인 유능감, 협동적 및 경쟁적 태도가 프로파일 멤버십과 어떠한 관련이 있는지, 준거 변인인 참여 수준이 프로파일에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 대학생 312명(여자 73.4%)의 사회인지적 갈등조절 유형(건설적 조절, 의견일치추구 조절, 경쟁적 조절, 보호적 조절)으로 잠재프로파일 분석을 실시하고 예측 변인에 대해서는 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석을, 준거 변인에 대해서는 평균동일성 검증을 실시하였다. 잠재프로파일분석 결과, 건설적 조절이 높은 수준을 보이는 ‘건설적 조절형(8%)’, 두 인지적 조절 유형이 높은 수준을 보이는 ‘인지적 조절형(49%)’, 모든 갈등조절 유형이 전반적으로 중간 수준인 ‘중간 혼합형(38%)’, 모든 조절이 높은 수준을 보이는 ‘높은 혼합형(5%)’으로 모두 4개의 프로파일이 도출되었다. 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 학습자가 높은 유능감과 높은 협동적 태도를 지닐수록 ‘건설적 조절형’에 속할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났고, 높은 수준의 경쟁적 태도를 지닐수록 ‘건설적 조절형’에 속할 가능성이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 네 프로파일 중 ‘중간 혼합형’의 참여 수준이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 비교적 많은 비율을 차지하는 ‘중간 혼합형(38%)’ 학습자들에 대한 지원이 우선적으로 이루어져야 함을 시사한다. 이를 위해, 유능감을 높이고 협동적 학습 환경을 제공할 뿐만 아니라, 경쟁적 환경 요소는 제거함으로써 ‘중간 혼합형’의 학습자들이 건설적 조절이 높은 ‘건설적 조절’로 옮겨갈 수 있도록 지원할 필요가 있다.

Learners often encounter conflicts with different opinions in their academic situations. In such cases, they manage conflicts in various ways. This study examined the profiles of college students’ sociocognitive conflict regulation and analyzed the relations of the profiles with predictive variables (i.e., competence and cooperative and competitive attitudes) and criterion variables (i.e., engagement). A latent profile analysis was conducted on 312 university students (73.4% female) based on their sociocognitive conflict regulation types (i.e., constructive, concurrence-seeking, competitive, and protective regulations). The latent profile analysis revealed four profiles: ‘Constructive Regulation Type (8%)’ showing a high level of constructive regulation, ‘Cognitive Regulation Type (49%)’ demonstrating high levels in two cognitive regulation types, ‘Intermediate Mixed Type (38%)’ with overall moderate levels in all conflict regulation types, and ‘High Mixed Type (5%)’ characterized by high levels in all regulation types. According to the multiple logistic regression analysis, learners with high competence and cooperative attitudes were more likely to belong to the ‘Constructive Regulation Type,’ while those with a high level of competitive attitudes were less likely to belong to this type. Furthermore, the engagement level of the ‘Intermediate Mixed Type’ was the lowest among the four profiles. These results suggest that support should prioritize learners in the ‘Intermediate Mixed Type (38%)’ that even showed the relatively high proportion. To this end, it is essential to support learners’ competence, create a cooperative learning environment, and eliminate competitive environmental factors.
