집단사고 연구의 체계적 문헌고찰과 상황조건 모형의 구성- 45년간의 연구에 대한 종합적 검토와 평가를 중심으로 -

Abstract

45년에 걸친 집단사고에 관한 연구결과들을 대상으로 체계적 문헌고찰(systematic reviews)을하여 Janis의 집단사고 모형의 변수들과 새로 제안된 변수들의 타당성을 검토･평가하고, 이를 토대로 Janis의 모형을 수정한 집단사고 상황조건 모형(contingency groupthink model)을 개발하였다. 이 모형은 Janis의 모형과 달리 집단응집성이 필요조건이 아닌 기여조건이며, 집단의 동질성, 높은 스트레스, 낮은 자긍심, 공정한 리더십, 기각된 대안의 재검토 실패, 상황대응계획 개발의실패 등 6개의 요인들이 제외되고, 예측 변수로서 집단 효능감과 리더의 권력, 조절변수로서 리더의 전문적 지식과 경험 및 폐쇄적/개방적 리더십, 집단사고의 긍정적 효과로서 구성원 간의 갈등의 감소, 결정목표의 정당화, 헌신적인 실행의지의 증대, 그리고 결정의 결과로서 결정의 수용등을 새로 도입하여 Janis 모형보다 다양한 의사결정 현상을 설명할 수 있고 성공적인 결정의 결과를 얻기 위한 다양한 처방을 내릴 수 있게 되었다.

This article reviewed, appraised, and synthesized all the results of forty-five years of research on the groupthink model using systematic reviews to identify the validity of the variables of Janis groupthink model and the other variables suggested by groupthink researchers. Based on the results of systematic reviews, revised groupthink framework termed the contingency groupthink model is presented. This model excluded the variables of member homogeneity, high stress, low temporary self-esteem, lack of leader impartiality, failure to re-examine rejected alternative, and failure to develop contingency plans from it and newly incorporates leader power, collective efficacy, closed leadership style behavior, leader expertise and experience, positive groupthink function, and acceptance of the decision. This model is meant to be applicable to a broader range of group problem situation than Janis groupthink model. Implications for future research and practice conclude the paper.
