- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between sport nutrition knowledge and appetite-regulating hormones in female ballet dancers in order to examine the effects of nutrition intake in the dancers' weight control and physical activities. The subjects for this study were 86 female ballet dancers in the range of 25 to 30 years old who volunteered to participate. Self-administered questionnaire survey method was used to measure the levels of sport nutrition knowledge, and the serum levels of ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and glucose of the subjects were examined. For statistics, the analysis of regression and Durbin Watson Test were used (α=.05). The results showed that the dependent variable, sport nutrition knowledge, and the independent variable, appetite-regulating hormones, did not show significant difference. The reason may be the result of insufficient and irregular food intake and low nutrition knowledge of female ballet dancers. The implication of the result of this study implied that it is vital to implement nutrition knowledge programs from early age for female ballet dancers to guide them to maintain healthy lifestyle.
