- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between ballet dancers' serum lipid lipoprotein profiles and energy intake. The cluster sampling subjects of 86 ballet dancers from ballet companies in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province participated in this study. Their age was between 25 to 30 years old. Energy intake was analyzed with CAN-Pro 2.0 with the data obtained from self-recorded 24-hours dietary intake journals. Blood sampling was conducted to examine the serum levels of high-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and triglyceride by the use of Enzymatic Colorimetry method. The Analysis of Regression and Durbin-Watson test were used for statistical analysis with SPSS 18. The results revealed that total cholesterol/HDL-C ratio, LDL-C, HDL-C, Triglyceride were not significantly related to the energy intake level. In conclusion, there seems to be no correlation between serum lipid lipoprotein profiles and energy intake in female ballet dancers. Future intervention studies should consider the school education of nutrition to preventing energy unbalance in female ballet dancers.
