Abstract
This is a qualitative study to introduce one of the popular topics in sports science, Grit, for being introduced as the common factor among successful people. The purposes of this study are as follows; In order to convert the psychological phenomenon of Grit into a concept that can be subject to an academic discussion in the field of sports, the information on the concept of Grit to demonstrate what kind of events or situations it is intended to describe or what the factors of Grit were was explored, in order to examine the concept of sports Grit and its elements. For this, the researcher conducted a literary review, in-depth interviews, and inductive analyses, of which the results were as follows; First, the operational and conceptual definition of sports Grit can be the energy or attitude of an athlete as he/she refuses to be succumbed by hardships and keeps going until he/she riches the long-term goals. Second, the elements of sports Grit were mainly divided into ‘tenacity,’ in terms of perseverance of effort and ‘passion’ in terms of consistency of interest. Third, the first element, tenacity, could further be divided into sub elements of efforts/practice, pursuit of growth/development, and resilience. The second element of passion could be divided into goal setting, task concentration, and motivation. And, based on the findings above, the directions for future studies were suggested.
