- Abstract
- Middle and high school girls start to put on make-up at earlier ages than in the past due to the spread of lookism, the emergence of personal media via the Internet and smartphone, and their own appearance- conscious developmental characteristic. Make-up is becoming their own language and culture, and is one of ways to make themselves good- looking. Good appearance serves to bolster psychological stability, satisfaction level and self-confidence, which leads to the improvement of various things such as interpersonal relationship and self-acceptance, heightens psychological well-being and ultimately exerts a positive influence on life satisfaction and school life. The purpose of this study was to examine the state of make-up and skin care among girl students in an effort to determine the influence of their make-up satisfaction level on psychological well-being and seek ways of elevating their satisfaction with their own skin and make-up.
There is a tendency that more secondary school girls who are appearance-conscious wear make-up. Their make-up culture should be acknowledged instead of looking at it in a negative way, and it's necessary to pay attention to what positive effects it can produce. Make-up education should be provided for them to learn how to apply make-up to have more satisfactory skin. When they find themselves to look better by applying make-up, they will be more satisfied with their own appearance, which serves, in turn, to bolster their psychological stability and self-satisfaction, to let them consider themselves more valuable, and ultimately to boost their happiness.
