- Abstract
- The purpose of this study lies in helping parents select parental role appropriate to the situations and
contexts for infants and solve problems in accordance with the role charactenstics. Ir. pursuing the
purpose, this study analyzes the impact of parenting on infant self concept and emotional intelligence
when parents choose parental tole that is presumed to be suitable for the circumstances, and identifies
the differences of parental role intelligence according to parental features.
The following conclusions are induced from the above research results. First, infant self concept is
influenced by support and acceptance from its parents. Support takes the form of giving force and
courage needed for infane growth in proportion to the developmenral intention of infants. Acceptance
reveals itself in the form of warm affection and love expressed physically and verbally, and
acknowledgement of infant as it is. Second, infant emotional intelligence is heightened by sympathy that
is in line with the infant. Such sympathy drives the capability and attitude toward more positive
directions through various technologies, and delivers empathic communications in consideration of
sensitivity to the infant. Third, parents can help infants grow and develop by positively perceiving the
infant development and education, and establishing knowledge, function, and attitude which are
necessary for the interaction with infants. Active participation in parental education program stimulates
such perception and establishment.
