- Abstract
- 이 논문은 간노 마사오(菅野正男)의 <흙과 싸우다(土と戦ふ)>(1940)를 국책잡지 <신만주(新満洲)>의 예외적인 지원 양상과 <흙과 싸우다>의 서사가 드러내는 청소년의용군의 문학적 표상의 양쪽에서 구체적으로 살펴본다. 이 작품은 발표 당시부터 문학 작품으로서의 가치보다 청소년의용군의 첫 문학적 성과이자 청소년의용군 정책을 장려하는 선전문학으로서의 가치를 높이 평가받았다. 그 가치는 이 작품이 청소년의용군 당사자에 의해 쓰인 보고문학으로서의 성격에서 비롯된 것이었다. 실제로 이 작품은 청소년의용군이 처한 부당한 대우와 가혹한 노동력 착취의 현실을 담담하게 묘사하였다. 그러나 그러한 현실 인식은 청소년의용군 제도 자체에 대한 비판이나 자각으로 이어지지 못하고, 일본인이라는 정체성과 정신주의를 통한 극복으로 끝난다. 이는 학생/미성년자/하급자의 교사/성인/상급자에 대한 복종을 제도적으로 중첩시킨 청소년의용군 제도 자체의 모순에서 비롯된 한계라고 볼 수 있다.
