- Abstract
- The present study's objective is to examine the status of co-op programs operated by universities, and suggest ways to improve co-ops in the future. A survey was conducted to meet this objective, which targeted representatives of 195 universities nationwide that have co-op management experience. The universities with co-op management experience were the co-op through companies connected with the university, and were providing basic benefits, including course credits and scholarships to participating students. Moreover, they were confirming only basic matters regarding co-ops from students during the training, and post-management was usually conducted through surveys. Although several universities had staff dedicated to co-op management, they were found to have limited relevant work experience. The expansion of various company recruitment efforts, recruitment efforts, provision of various benefits for participating students, identifying detailed matters that occur during the training process, continuous post management that links co-op programs to jobs, and plans for expansion of educational opportunities for dedicated personnel are necessary for future improvements. ©2016 International Information Institute.
