- Abstract
- This article is to study about constructing desire of cultural identity and Mythical Space through Sea, focusing on Choi Nam-Sun"s ‘The Sea and Chosun Nationality’. This article has three objects. The first, I will research into the reconstructing a cultural history through a geographical history. Choi Nam-Sun regards the Korean peninsula culture as a cosmetic viewpoint and builds a cultural history. In Modern times, Global and Local have a mixed meaning in cultures, societies, economics, sciences, and arts. The meaning of sea is related with Globalization. In this article, the meaning of “the sea” is a super-national meaning. Namely, the marine-culture is a new term creating new values. The second, Choi Nam-Sun looks upon the sea as the foundation of the myth. The sea is the place rebuilding the historical and cultural memory. The construction of the ancient cities was closely related with the sea. The third, I will focus on Choi"s ultimate purpose of concerning about the sea. Through the sea, he looked forward to the bright Korean future. To him, the sea is the Episteme of Myth and planning the future. Through Choi Nam Sun"s ‘The Sea and Chosun Nationality’, we will find the meaning of the sea.
