대학의 교양 교육에 대한 철학적 성찰－헤겔의 『법철학』 을 중심으로

Abstract

헤겔은 대학의 교양 교육을 주제로 독립적인 글을 발표한 적은 없다. 그러나, 그는 그의 여러 글들에서도야[교양 교육]를 매우 중요한 관점에서 자주 언급한다. 특히 그의 법철학 을 중심으로 여러 관련글들에서 그가 도야[교양 교육]에 관해 제시한 핵심 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학 이전에 가정과사회에서 도야[교양 교육]는 자립적 인격을 형성하는 데 그 목표를 둔다. 대학의 교양 교육은 이러한대학 이전 교육을 전제로 삼을 수밖에 없다는 점에서, 자립적 인격 형성은 대학의 교양 교육에 기초가되며 밀접한 연관이 있다. 둘째, 시민으로서 개인은 자신의 이익과 욕구 충족을 위해 이론적 도야와실천적 도야를 필요로 한다. 특히, 시민 사회에서 대학의 교양 교육과 관련해 무엇보다 중요한 점은, 다양한 사태를 주시할 수 있는 교양 형성을 통해 독창성을 발휘하기 위한 역량을 배양하는 것이다. 셋째, 국가 공동체에서 개인이 정치적 덕성을 갖추어 정치적 주체로 거듭나도록 하는 데 대학의 교양교육은 기여해야 한다. 이를 통해 개인이 공동체의 일을 자신의 일로 아는 참여적 시민의식이 형성될수 있다.

Hegel never published an independent article on the subject of liberal education (cultivation: Bildung) as it is taught at a university. However, he frequently mentioned liberal education from a very important point of view in his various writings. In particular, the key points he presented about liberal education in certain related articles, focusing on his Philosophy of Right, are as follows: First, liberal education (cultivation) in a home and in a society before a person enters a university proper, sets its sights on forming a self-reliant personality. The cultivation of an independent personality forms the basis of liberal education at a university. Second, individuals as citizens need theoretical and practical cultivation to satisfy their own interests and needs. In particular, the most important thing about liberal education as it appears at universities for civil society is to lay the foundation for creativity and originality through liberal education (cultivation). For this will allow graduates to become objective observers when confronted with various situations. Third, liberal education taught in universities should contribute to enabling individuals in the national community to be reborn as political subjects with political virtues. This can create a participatory civic awareness in which individuals come to realize that the work of the community is also their own.
