공공성(公共性)의 우리말 뜻 매김

Abstract

공공성(公共性)은 비록 그 낱말 뜻이 애매모호할지라도 점차 더 많이 쓰이고 있다. 이 글은 “공공성”이라는 낱말의 모호성을 줄이기 위해, 먼저, 공공성의 뜻을 낱말 자체의 맥락, 번역의 맥락 그리고 개념(현재 쓰이는 현실)의 맥락으로 나누어 차례로 갈무리하고, 다음에, “공공성”의 출발어 “퍼블릭(public)”과 “외펜틀리히카이트(Öffentlichkeit)”에 대한 뜻을 밝히며, 마지막으로, “공공성”의 출발어가 가진 뜻에 바탕을 두면서도 그 낱말이 우리의 현실에서 쓰여온 역사를 고려하여 “공공성”을 대체할 새 갈말(전문 학술어)로 “모두-성(性)”을 내놓는다.

The meaning of the word, “publicness (公共性)” is somewhat ambiguous, the word’s use has been increasingly growing. The paper, to reduce the ambiguity of the word “publicness”, firstly covers the meaning of publicness in order, by dividing it into the context of the word itself, the context of translation and the context of the concept (and current usage). Then, the paper clarifies the meanings of “public” and “Öffentlichkeit”, both of which are the source language of “공공성”. Finally, the paper suggests “modu-ness(모두-성(性)” as a new terminology to alternate “publicness”, considering the context where the word has been used in our society, as well as the word’s origin.
