Abstract
This paper aims at proposing suggestions to the tourism industry to activate virtual tourism after COVID-19 Pandemic era. Suggestions are mainly made for competitiveness in the sectors of sustainable virtual tourism and international tourism. Design/Methodology/Approach To fulfill the proposed goals, this research has three phases in a methodological sense. In the first phase, 40 articles related to virtual tourism were elected from the Web of Science database. In the second phase, selected articles were analyzed in terms of research purpose, methodology and results. In the third phase, the articles were categorized into 4 similar groups, and then research trends, implications and finally propects of virtual tourism were drawn. Findings Summarizing research findings, first, virtual tourism has more interesting products such as virtual gaming and geo-education than normal tourism. Second, virtual tourism significantly contributes to protect and preserve natural and cultural heritages. Finally, virtual tourism is useful for educating remote international students in the ear of pendemic. Research Implications Research implications are made for building up competitive advantages in the virtual tourism industry. In the aspect of technology, main virtual technologis such as VR(virtual reality), AR(augmented reality) and MR(mixed reality) are needed to cooperate with relevant technologies like AI(artificial intelligence) for a better virtual tourism. Also to activate virtual tourism successfully, proper guidelines should be given to both service providers and tourists.
