프로젝트 학습의 예술적 이해: 수준적 예술의 한 단면

Abstract

프로젝트 표상활동으로 인하여 유아 예술에 관심이 높은 반면 그 관심의 중심이 주로 예술의 수단적 차원에 한정되는 면이 없지 않다. 그러나 수단을 넘어 존재론적 차원에서 프로젝트 예술 활동이 이해될 때 그것의 예술적 가치를 최대한으로 짚어낼 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구는 예술을 내용이나 결과물을 넘어 일상적 학습 경험이 가지는 속성으로 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 진정한 예술의 가치는 일상적 삶 속에서 예술적 속성이 구현되는 것이며, 아울러 아동의 예술 활동은 일상적 학습 경험과 분리되지 말아야 한다는 Dewey의 예술교육론을 논의의 중심으로 삼았다. 이와 더불어 이런 예술적 경험들이 일상적 학습 과정에서 어떤 모습으로 나타나는지를 프로젝트 수업이 이루어지고 있는 교실을 대상으로 질적 연구를 통해 알아보았다. 결과에 따르면, 하나의 경험으로 일컬어진 일상적 학습경험은 흥미, 적극성, 몰입, 힘듦, 사심없음 등의 예술적 속성을 나타내었으며, 프로젝트 2단계 3차적 표상활동이 예술적 경험의 최적의 맥락적 조건을 갖춘 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 논의는 Dewey의 예술관을 재조명함과 동시에 유아교육 기본원리를 재인식하는 하나의 좋은 계기가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

There is an increasing recognition of the Reggio Emilia arts among early childhood educators. However, it is mostly dominated by the instrumental concern for its artistic nature. An understanding of the Reggio Emilia arts activities in an existential level could maximize its aesthetic values which highlightan ordinary experience. This study aims to draw the aesthetic meaning of the Reggio Emilia arts activities by analyzing children's discourses and activities in projects. It will be an opportunity to illuminate Deweyan aesthetics in a way that puts an emphasis on the consummator phase of life and to reconsider one of the basic principles of early childhood education, children's interest.
