행위자-네트워크 이론(ANT, actor-network theory)을 적용한 성읍민속마을 전통축제의 재맥락화 과정 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 마을 주민들의 기억으로 민속마을의 역사를 ‘다시쓰기(rewriting)’하여 현재를 살펴본다. 이 논문의 목적은 성읍민속마을의 전통문화가 축제로 재맥락화되는 과정 속에서 다양한 행위자들의 상호작용을 검토하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 국가가 규정한 민속마을의 ‘만들어진 전통’ 속에서 자신들의 삶을 주체적으로 자리매김하는 마을 주민들의 문화적 실천을 전통축제 사례로 분석한다. 이 논문은 존재론적 전환을 토대로 구체적인 전통 담론의 실천적 함의를 도출하고자 인간과 비인간 대상의 경계를 넘고자 하였다. 연구자는 행위자의 개념을 확장한 이론을 근거로(Latour 1988, 1991) ‘만들어진 전통’ 담론의 해체 과정을 주요한 연구문제로 삼는다. 이를 위해 분석적인 측면에서, ANT의 번역의 4단계를 연구 분석틀로 적용하여 행위자들 간의 네트워크가 형성된 배경과 네트워크 맺음의 방식을 추적하고, 최종적으로 행위자들로 연결되어진 블랙박스를 해체하여 네트워크를 열어볼 것이다. 먼저 2장에서 거시적인 마을의 변화로 성읍마을이 민속마을로 지정되는 전ㆍ후 과정을 분석한다. 3장에서는 전통축제가 탄생하고 변화하는 맥락을 행위자-네트워크 과정으로 살펴본다. 4장에서는 전통축제 재맥락화 과정에 대한 의미를 고찰한다. 결과적으로 만들어진 전통의 민속마을에서 재맥락화된 전통축제는 마을 주민들이 끊임없이 전통을 잇대고자 하는 매개체로서, 국민국가의 민족주의와 문화관광 상품화의 관광개발 사이에서 선택한 결과임을 밝힐 것이다.

The purpose of this paper is to review the interactions of various actors in the process of carrying out a recontextualized traditional festival of Seongeup Folk Village. In this study, we examine the cultural practices of villagers in the traditional festivals which establish their lives independently of the traditions defined by the state. Through the festival, the history of the folk village is “rewritten” with the memories of the villagers, by which the villagers can examine the present. In this paper, we attempt to cross the boundaries between human and non-human objects based upon ontological transformation. Based on the theory that expands the concept of actors (Latour 1988, 2005), we made the process of dismantling the discourse of the ‘Invention of Tradition’ as a major goal of the research. To this end, the four stages of the translation of actor-networks are applied as a framework of analysis to track the backgrounds and network formation relations between the actors, and finally, the black box which connects the actors is dismantled to open the network. As a result, we reveal that the recontextualized traditional festival is a medium for the villagers to constantly connect traditions and it is the result of their choice between nationalism and tourism development through cultural tourism commercialization.
