- Abstract
- Magnesium (Mg) supplement has been used for the prevention of aging-related degenerative or metabolic diseases. Currently, Mg intake seems to be lower than the recommended amounts worldwide. Considering the ratio of Mg to calcium and their antagonistic functions, we suggest both of the two minerals should be consumed in balance. Mg showed the reduction of the risks of diabetes, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sarcopenia, cancers, or immune diseases with various molecular and physiological intervention. For the precision nutrition, we reviewed the genetic polymorphisms in TRPM6/7, MAGT1, SLC41A1, and CNNM2, which are involved in Mg transport or hormesis, and found some different susceptibility to type 2 diabetes, immune deficiency, etc., by the genetic mutations.
