- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to understand the reality of food ethics through in-depth interviews with domestic agricultural producers and to seek new directions and demands for food ethics from the producers’ perspective. The results of this study demonstrate that agricultural producers are experiencing ethical dilemmas concerning whether or not to use pesticides and chemical fertilizers, adopting sustainable production methods, and profitability. The need for agricultural product price guarantee policy or similar government policies in order to promote the expansion and use of agricultural waste treatment facilities and agricultural product diversity is discussed. In addition, an enhanced societal appreciation for agricultural products and an appreciation of the consumers' own consumption journey is the premise underscoring genuine food ethics of agricultural producers. Lastly, both agricultural producers and consumers equally owe an ethical responsibility to restore a sustainable food system, suggesting the need for a reflection of their fundamental role in our food system.
