부부의 자기자비가 결혼만족에 미치는 영향: 자기효과 및 상대방효과

Abstract

본 연구는 156쌍의 부부를 대상으로 개인의 내적 특성인 자기자비가 결혼만족에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여 실시되었다. 자기-상대방 상호의존 모형인 APIM(Kenny, 1996)은 영향을 주고 받는 대상을 연구할 때, 부부 쌍[남편과 아내]을 하나의 단위로 보고 상호작용을 연구함으로 타당성 있는 결과를 보일 수 있다. 이로써 부부관계에서 상호작용을 자기효과(아내 혹은 남편의 자기자비가 자신의 결혼만족에 미치는 효과)와 상대방효과(아내 혹은 남편의 자기자비가 상대방의 결혼만족에 미치는 효과)로 구분하여 알아보았다. 변인들 간 관련성을 살펴보기 위해 상관분석을 실시하고 구조방정식 모형 검증을 한 후, 변인들 간 자기효과 및 상대방효과의 유의성을 검증하였으며 각 효과의 크기를 비교하였다. 주요 결과로 첫째, 남편의 자기자비는 자신의 결혼만족에 정적 영향을 미쳤고, 아내의 결혼만족에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 아내의 자기자비는 자신의 결혼만족과 남편의 결혼만족에 유의미한 정적 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 앞선 결과를 토대로 남편의 결혼만족에 영향을 미치는 자신의 자기자비와 아내의 자기자비 크기를 비교한 결과, 유의미한 차이는 존재하지 않았다. 본 연구는 부부 및 가족상담을 진행할 때에 개개인의 특성이 관계 안의 상호작용을 이해하는 것에 중요한 요소가 되는 것을 시사한다. 본 연구는 부부 및 가족 상담 장면에서의 개입과 상담 프로그램 기획에 도움이 되는 기초자료를 제공하는 것에 의미를 둘 수 있다.

In this study, we sampled 156 couples to find out how self-compassion, which is one’s inner characteristic, affects marital satisfaction. Based on the actor-partner interdependence model (APIM; Kenny, 1996), which sees a couple as a unit, we identified the actor effect (the effect of one's own self-compassion on his or her own marital satisfaction) and the partner effect (the effect of one's own self-compassion on his or her partner's marital satisfaction) . In order to examine the relationship between the variables, correlation analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were applied, the significance of the actor effect and partner effect between the variables was verified, and the magnitude of each effect was compared. First, we found that the husband's self-compassion had a positive effect on his own marital satisfaction, but not on his wife's. Second, the wife's self-compassion had a statistically significant positive effect on the marital satisfaction of both her husband and herself. Third, based on the results aforementioned, there was no significant difference between his own and his wife's own level of self-compassion and that of his wife that affected positively on the husband’s marital satisfaction. This study indicates that when conducting a marriage or family counseling session, it is important to understand how one’s individual characteristics may affect the interactions in that person’s relationships. This study also provides baseline data that can be helpful for designing marriage and family counseling programs.
