The purpose of this study was to examine the application of games as an assessing tool for ego strength of children in game play therapy. To assess the low ego strength of subjects, main symptom and discrepancy between verbal IQ(VIQ) and performance IQ(PIQ) of children became a discrimination criterion. Through these process, finally 4 subjects, who were 7~9 years old children, were selected. Then, to verify the game attitude reflected the factor of low ego strength of children, it analyzed the initial 5 game play sessions through 12 social-emotional factors suggested by Bow and Quinnell(2001). The result is as follows: First, it was examined that the game attitude of 4 subjects reflected low ego strength. They showed the low function of judgement, relationship of others, sense of self competence, self-control, emotional control and frustration tolerance, and locus of control concerning of ego strength. Second, subjects' game attitudes made a difference according to their main symptom and discrepancy between VIQ and PIQ. Overall, their game attitudes reflected low ego strength. The significance of this study has laid the groundwork for development of assessing the ego strength of children using games in game play therapy.
